Physician (1923-2002). Perry received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in 1946. After serving in the Army Medical Corps, Perry joined the faculty of his alma mater, retiring as professor emeritus of medicine in the early 1990s. Perry was an early pioneer in the study and treatment of hypertension. Barnes Hospital was founded on an endowment established by Robert A. Barnes, a St. Louis wholesale grocer, who died in 1892. The original buildings were constructed between 1912 and 1914. In 1911, a contract was made between the hospital trustees and Washington University School of Medicine affiliating the two institutions, whereby the faculty of the school serves as the medical staff of the hospital.
